Ellie’s Story

Ellie Shuanghui was born in Langfang City, Hebei Province, China. Ellie was given the birthday of Feb 5, 2002. Shuanghui is translated into “double lucky” and Ellie has been a very blessed child! Ellie was born with a birth defect known as congenital Imperforate Anus. This defect is when a child’s anal opening either doesn’t form at all or it forms but the “plumbing” isn’t all connected correctly. There are hundreds of variations of Imperforate Anus, but the surgical procedure is mostly the same. Sometime very shortly after her birth, Ellie had a colostomy placed and then at about 10 months old she had an anal canal and opening surgically created for her. A few months later she had the colostomy reversed and her body was taught how to defecate “normally”. Ellie is now 4 years old but continues to lack any bowel and bladder control. She is on a daily bowel program and we have to watch her fluid intake and her diet carefully. Ellie is undergoing testing to determine if she could also have a tethered spinal cord, one of the variations of Spina Bifida.

But Ellie doesn’t let anything slow her down! She is a joy to anyone who meets her. Ellie loves to play with her brother and sisters outside and she has a tender heart for animals. Ellie goes to school and loves to practice her handwriting!

Ellie was cared for at a wonderful medical foster home in China, Ping An medical foster home. We are so thankful that God kept Ellie Shuanghui safe until we came to adopt her in October 2005. Ellie was 2.5 yrs old on our Gotcha Day and she changed our lives forever!
